School Feeding Programme in Poverty Prone Areas (Barishal)

Project Introduction:

Dhaka Ahsania Mission is working in the proposed area 2 Upazilas (Barisal Sader,Hizla)  of Barisal district  for long time. In greater Barisal DAM has non formal education program in selected upazilas, DAM has ROSC program and NFE program in Barisal,Patuakhali,Bhola and Barguna District. DAM Micro Education is a major indicator of social progress.

DAM delivers continuing education program aiming at capacity building of the poor allowing them sustainable access to the employment opportunity to make them partners in social progress.  At the national level DAM is also contributing to tertiary education. DAM establishes different types of institutions to provide support on tertiary education. DAM has developed learning materials for all age group of learners from early childhood development to continuing education. DAM developed supplementary materials for primary schools. As apart of NGO advocacy network forum, DAM worked in reinforcing NFE in the context of EFA, in the National Plan of Action and in linking NFE with the PRSP. For the last three decades DAM has been consistently contributing to improve the life of underprivileged children and people through non-formal primary education and literacy program.

Within the framework of EFA & MDG-2 DAM emphasize through its various programs for enrollment and retention of children in primary schools until the completion of course to achieve universal primary education is an imperative when the quality aspect of education must have been emphasized.

Overall Objective: Contribute to the government policy of universal primary education by improving access to basic education of school-aged children, particularly those living in poverty prone areas.

Specific Objectives:

  • Increased nutritional status of 58,776 students in Barisal Sader, 30,630 in Hizla, upazilas under Barisal District of Barisal Division. The total number of students is 89,406
  • Enhanced the learning capacity as well as retention of learning of the students of the primary education institutions in the selected areas through having fortified biscuits.
  • Increased enrolment, attendance and completion rates at the primary level education.
  • Sensitized communities and schools on the importance of good nutrition for enhanced learning outcome.
  • Decreased absenteeism due to hunger of the students.

Outputs:

  • Describe the goods/services to be delivered to the beneficiaries by this operation, which should address the cause(s) of the core problem(s).State the performance indicators you will use to assess your performance in delivering these goods/services.
  • A total of 292 primary education institutions will be covered through this program.
  • A total of 89,406 students will receive fortified biscuits.
  • A total of 292 SMCs will be given orientation on their roles.
  • Approximately 45,0000 community people will be aware of nutrition and health.
