Bangladesh Institute of Lifelong Learning (BILL) established by Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) in 2018 is an institution to create opportunity for lifelong learning.
Development of human society demands, among others, the services of competent professionals to research, plan, implement and continually improve education and training systems and programs contributing to lifelong learning, sustainable economic growth, peace and stability. Though it applies equally to developed and developing societies, such need is urgent in the developing countries to make them competitive in an increasingly globalized world characterized by rapidly developing knowledge economy. Promoting social,economic and human development and upholding peace and cultural values are major challenges of modern times. Since its establishment in 1958 as a non-government social development organization Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) has been working diligently with the community. Over the last several decades, DAM undertook a number of institutional and community based initiatives to contribute to meet this challenge. Key focus of these initiatives is promoting education as a tool for change and development. With this aim in view , DAM has established Bangladesh Institute of Lifelong Learning (BILL).
Lifelong Learning is the keyword for education today. It comprises learning for life, learning for livelihood and learning throughout life. It has been adopted as the core philosophy of education in the West, particularly in Europe. With the advent of science and technology in particular and advancement in all kinds of learning in general, knowledge is rapidly becoming obsolete over a period of time. It has therefore been necessary to institutionalize the lifelong learning efforts. Moreover, for people at large, it is necessary to update and upgrade their knowledge to cope with the changing time. The Institute of lifelong learning is being proposed as an institute under DAM to develop for Bangladesh a futuristic institute. It is proposed to be the role model for the whole nation and thereby an institution of excellence not only for the sub-continent but also for the entire Third World.
