Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) won the prestigious UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy 2013 for its significant contribution to Ganokendras (People’s Centres).The UNESCO International Literacy Prize 2013 is scheduled to hand over on 9 September 2013 to Kazi Rafiqul Alam, President of Dhaka Ahsania Mission in an official award giving ceremony to be held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

Ganokendra, the hub of all community based comprehensive development activities and serving as a platform to empower women and girls through literacy integrated with livelihood skills training.
Ganokendras are to provide leaning opportunities for improvement of quality of life and sustainable development programme viz. early childhood development, pre-school, non-formal primary education, adult literacy and continuing education, and livelihood skills training. Beside, development of various forms of innovative materials for non-formal and formal education systems and in building capacity of teachers, field functionaries and Ganokendra members. In facts, DAM has been implementing Ganokendras in hard-to-reach poverty stricken areas in 84 sub-districts of 26 districts. Dhaka Ahsania Mission was nominated by the Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU) for the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy 2013.

The UNESCO International Literacy Prize 2013 is reward for more than three decades of persistent efforts of DAM in the area of Ganokendra based various education programme.

It may be noted here that Dhaka Ahsania Mission 1st time received UNESCO International Literacy Award in the year 2003 and Independence Award from the Govt. of Bangladesh in the year 2002.
