Project Name:  Promoting Climate Resilient Education, Faridpur

Project Introduction:
This pilot project intends to inspire students, teachers and school management committees to promote a culture of safety in schools and to increase the resilience of schools to climate shocks. It will help create and maintain a safe school environment conducive to learning for students and staff including three focus areas as follows: school profiling; crisis preparedness through awareness building and learning; and emergency action plans. The proposed pilot project will provide classroom-based learning activities to 1,000 students in two targeted schools. An inclusive risk assessment process will be one of the most important initial steps in the pilot project. It will work towards resilient communities with the active involvement of children. The process will be conducted in two targeted schools and will analyze climatic shocks, trends, risks, resources, capacities and existing practices in the schools and local community. Based on the participatory analysis, a coping strategy will be developed which the schools and community will adopt through practice for future adaptation measures. The project approach has been developed recognizing that the sustainability of project interventions is best achieved by ensuring local ownership, in this case ensuring that children, schools and local communities are driving climate change adaptation and mitigation plans.
