Publication Ceremony of folk based children books held

A publication ceremony (book unwrapping event) was held at Poet Shamsur Rahman seminar Hall, Bangla Academy on 3rd May 2017 organised by UNIQUE II project of Dhaka Ahsania Mission. This project recently published 14 reading materials for children as part of engaging children in reading and joyful learning.  Mentionable that, these booklets have been developed with the elements of Bangla folk culture, popular stories, rhymes, proverbs and traditions.  Initially these books were developed by field based project staff and teachers. Later a group of prominent authors of Bangladesh edited them. 


Shamsuzzaman Khan, DG Bangla Academy gave a valuable speech as chief guest. He said that these booklets will be useful for young learners and delve their hearts deep into the culture of Bangladesh. Acclaimed writer Selina Hosain opined that the booklets produced would immensely be conducive to develop the mental faculty of our children. Appreciating the initiative, NFPE expert A.N.S Habibur Rahman said that students would be able to enhance their rapid reading skills through reading these booklets. Professor Shafiul Alam and Marma language specialist Kwa Shoy Pru also spoke on the effectiveness of these books.

In welcome speech G.F Hamim, Project Director, Unique II gave an account of UNIQUE II project and the background of these publications. Material Development Specialist Mohammad Mohsin highlighted the process of the developing these 14 booklets.

A total of 150 participants from different organizations and agencies including Unesco, Brac, GSS, FIVDB, CAMPE, Stromme Foundation, partner organizations of UNIQUE II project including teachers, and project staff, artists, material developers and other civil society members  participated in the ceremony. A group of children learners and teachers from UNIQUE schools enthralled the audience with folk and indigenous dance during the event.
