Project Name:  Eradication of Hazardous Child Labour in Bangladesh (4th Phase) Project

Project Introduction:  

The Eradication of Hazardous Child Labour in Bangladesh (4th Phase) project were basically on Non-Formal education and Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET).  TVET is the supplementary sector of Education sector. The common education projects nature was to implement education services mainly NFPE and partially JSC education for the Out of School and never enrolled children of hard to reach areas of Bangladesh.  These projects also included government projects under DPE and BNFE. The TVET projects were mainly to provide technical education on different market driven trades.

Overall Objective:

To shift 893 children (aged 8-16+ years) from hazardous labour to decent works and mainstream in education through flexible Non-Formal Education (NFE) and Skill Development Training.

Specific Objectives:

Result 1: Increased access to non-formal education of children engaged in hazardous labour in targeted areas/communities.
Result 2: Improved quality of NFE for 893 children.
Result 3: Increased collaboration between the formal and non-formal primary education to promote sharing and mainstream children.
Result 4: Increased access to Skill Development Training of children engaged in hazardous labor in targeted areas/communities.
Result 5: Improved efficiency and skills of hazardous child labours in the targeted areas/communities
Result 6: Shifted hazardous child labours to decent work in the targeted areas/communities

Outputs:

Output 1.1:  Mobilized beneficiaries, community members, and strategic partners for strengthening capacity of hazardous child labour to organize and select children
Output 1.2: Recruited 10 staffs to implement the education program
Output 1.3: Established 26 CLCs & 20 MPCs to provide NFE & SDT services
Output 2.1:  Developed implementation Plan of Action and mechanism on NFE delivery.
Output 2.2:  Prepared target beneficiary efficient condensed course curriculum
Output 2.3:  Built capacity of 36 NFE Teacher & 20 STD Instructor through training.
Output 3.1: Rapport built with the formal school authority for mainstreaming
Output 4.1: Mobilized beneficiaries, community members, and strategic partners for strengthening capacity of hazardous child labours 
Output 4.2: Identified, organized & selected children engaged in hazardous labours for SDT
Output 4.3: Established 20 MPCs to provide trade based skill development training for 4 months
Output 5.1:  Developed an implementation plan and mechanism on capacity building.
Output 5.2: Provided 893 child labours of 8-16+ years of ages engaged in hazardous work, with 4 months skill development training of marketable various trades
Output 6.1:  Shifting/placement of skilled/graduated child labours from hazardous to non-hazardous works through self-employments and apprenticeship by negotiation and awareness activities.
Output 6.2:  Children are provided with stipend which will help them to attend regularly in the MPCs for NFE & SDT for shifting hazardous work to decent job.

Project Components:

Major Activities:

  • Undertake a baseline survey to identify prospective learners
  • Prepare learners list, select and enroll them into CLCs from survey list
  • Supply of NFE Education & other supplementary Material
  • Supply of Physical facilities for NFE Centers (Black Board, Mat, Chalk, etc. cost
  • Supply of SDT Machineries, Equipment, Materials, Supplementary materials for MPC
  • SDT Material supply, Supplementary & Other materials cost for SDT Learners.
  • Certification for NTVQ level-1 for learners
  • Organize Project Orientation training to staff for implementing the project smoothly.
  • Staff development Training.
  • Monthly Staff Meeting & issue-based discussion
  • Provide Basic Training & subject based training to the NFE Teachers
  • Monthly Refreshers Training to the NFE Teachers
  • Training on Participatory Monitoring System
  • Conduct monthly Meetings with Center Management committee (CMC)
  • Organize Project inception Meeting with all relevant stakeholder
