|
|
The urban community learning centers (4CLCs) was set up with a view to function as education, information, and recreation and resource centers for slum dwellers. During the two years nine months project, 900 children (approximately 60% girls and 40% boys) will acquire basic education and of these, again during the two years nine months project period, 75 older children will acquire employable vocational skills and linkage to the job market. Children’s participation in education and training, supported by parental awareness, will facilitate increased access to available local facilities, leading to improvement of quality of life. The improved living conditions will help towards the gradual elimination of child labour. The target group is working, street, and poor children living in the designated slum areas of Dhaka City. Parents and other family members will also benefit, so with the average family size being 6, a total 5400 will indirectly benefit through improved access to health, water and sanitation services from local government; awareness raising campaigns etc. The project is being implemented in Mirpur area of Dhaka City. |
