Education Sector of DAM has lunched a training center in the Rohingya Camp in Cox’s Bazar on 11 March 2019. Ensuring the quality training for Rohingya teachers DAM have established the training center in camp 9 at Balukhali, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. Through an inauguration ceremony the training center was
lunched where Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Abul Kalam, ndc, Additional Secretary was present as the chief guest. Honourable Camp in Charge, Camp 9 & 10 Md. Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Secretary Chaired the event. Mr. Charles Avelino, Education Manager, UNICEF Bangladesh and Md. Shajidul Islam, Education Officer, UNICEF Bangladesh, Cox’s Bazar Field Office was present as the special guests. Md. Shahidul Islam, Head of Education Programs, Dhaka Ahsania Mission was present in this inauguration ceremony.
To deliver the welcome speech Md. Hanef Ali, the Program Focal Person of DAM Education Projects focused on the philosophy of DAM founder & DAM’s moto. He mentioned the various national and international award achieved by DAM. As the Chief Guest of the ceremony, Mohammad Abul Kalam, ndc, Additional Secretary told about the behind story of Rohingyas access to Bangladesh as their lacking of education. He emphasised to ensure education to eradicate Rohingya’s vulnerability. Then he pointed about the importance of training. He expected that through this training center by receiving various training staffs, teachers & both communities will be skilled & get benefit from it. He forbade to use Bengali language with Rohingya children and suggested to recruit teachers from the local community for teaching learning communication.
Mr. Charles Avelino said that DAM is the big partner of UNICEF. Many of the partners have large number of activities but DAM’s activities are running well with quality. Training is very important for capacity building of the teachers. He hoped new established DAM Training Center will contribute to provide quality training for camp level teachers. He raised the forth coming challenges of implementing the LCFA materials. The training will make ease the lesson by getting training. He told in the forum that UNICEF is extending some potential programs with DAM including vocational training for adolescents and Youth in emergency response of Rohingya camps.

Now a day the visibilities of DAM have also been increased in the camps. He thanked DAM authority for construction an attractive training centre within shortest time. This land was about unused and its exterior views were not decent and was being used as exploited land. He acknowledged that after DAM’s activities on education, this land is now beautiful and very attractive. He strongly expressed that his support will continue with DAM’s programs.
Md. Shahidul Islam Head of Education Programs of DAM shared that working with the people over 60 years, DAM has been rewarded with significant achievements for its outstanding performance national and internationally. He also honoured the Chief Guest, Special Guest and Chairperson offering crests as gifts memorizing it Diamond Jubilee. Mr. Md. Alamgir Hossain, Corporal of Bangladesh Army, Project Coordinators, Sectoral Specialists, Technical Officers of DAM, others staffs & teachers were also present in the event.
Mentioned that DAM has been working in Rohingya camps from the very beginning. DAM has 900 teachers (450 Host Community teachers & 450 Burmese Language Instructors) and 82 staffs in the EiE project in 23 camps. The established training center’s land area is approximately 5000 sfts. Among them 1750 sfts are well decorated with tin-shed building where 800 sfts is for training room, its capacity is for 140 persons in meeting mood and 40 persons as training mood with multimedia projector, 300 sfts dining room, and 100 sfts for office room. There are also 3 well-furnished wash facilities in the DAM training center. It has an attractive garden with eye catching environment. Others implementing partners can use this training center for their program-activities.
