Commonwealth Digital Education Leadership Training in Action (C-DELTA) held in Dhaka

In cooperation with Commonwealth of Learning (COL) a 3-day Digital Education Leadership Training in Action (C-DELTA) workshop held from 24 to 26 January 2019 in Dhaka Bangladesh. The training workshop was organized by Center for International Education and Development (CINED) of Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) with the support from Bangladesh Government’s ‘Access to Information (A2I)’ program.  A total of 30 teachers from different colleges of Bangladesh participated in this workshop. A number of government officials and representatives from a2i also attended the opening session of the training.

Inaugurating the workshop, Project Director of ICT for Education in Secondary and Higher Secondary Level Project (Phase-II) of Bangladesh Government, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Sabur Khan said that this was a  an age of information technology, and thereby all of us were required to be familiar with rapidly changing technologies particularly in an Ed-Tech environment. Teachers hence play a critical role in building new generation, he added. Thanking COL initiative, he further said that C-DELTA training will help teachers to develop their leadership skills as well as enhance digital literacy in Bangladesh.”

Mr. Shahnewaz Khan, Chief Executive Officer of CINED welcomed the participants and briefed about the context and objectives of this workshop. Professor Faruque Ahmed, E-learning expert of A2i program and Dr. M Ehsanur Rahman, Executive Director of Dhaka Ahsania Mission also spoke on the occasion.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Azad Kamal, Dean of Bangladesh Open University and Mr. G. F. Hamim, Director Programmes of DAM facilitated the 3-day workshop based on seven modules of C-DELTA

The methods of the training workshop were participative, interactive and online practice based. The specific methods to conduct the training were- group discussion, brainstorming, participatory and group exercise. To facilitate the learning, a Whatapps group was also formed through which the trainee teachers started to share their learning and different contents. Earlier, all teachers registered them C-DELTA platform and took the pre-test.

During the workshop, all participating teachers developed a C-DELTA Action Plan to be implemented in their institutions for the next three months. As part of the plan, all the teachers will complete all seven modules, form a student group and facilitate them to complete at least three modules and sit for the pre and post-test.  Back to their institutions, the trained teachers will also engage their fellow teachers and other students to make an inroad to the promotion of C-Delta activities and lead efforts to create a digitally mediated society. CINED, DAM will regularly keep a communication with these teachers to follow up implementation of this plan.

It is to be noted that the C-DELTA training workshop has been organized for the first time in Bangladesh under COL’s long-term program.
