Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) is one of the largest NGO in Bangladesh and the organization is nationally and internationally reputed for providing good quality services in diverse programmes and areas of works in different sectors of economy. Dhaka Ahsania Mission functions since 1958 and it works to enhance people’s capabilities to maximally utilize their inner potentials in addressing living needs. DAM has number of functional divisions and units headed by Directors. Among them Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) division is very much prominent. DAM is providing education and training at its own institutions like Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), Ahsanullah Institute of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (AITVET) and Vocational Training Institutes (VTIs) and Technical Teachers Training Institute (TTTI). DAM has its own training institutes in Dhaka and other districts in Bangladesh. At present, DAM is providing skills development training at DAM owned Vocational Training Institutes (VTIs) and partnering government and other NGOs. DAM has its own training facilities all over Bangladesh competent technical experts, technical trainers administrative staff with proven experience and track records and background in TVET and industry linkage as well as it provides diverse need-based services through both field-based and institutional-based.
Bangladesh is a country with huge potential human resources with the growth of economic conditions and investment opportunities, the needs for skilled human resources are increasing. The present scenario is, a large portion of population in the country do not have appropriate skills and education to cater the needs of the business and industries.
Considering the above context of Bangladesh DAM is providing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) with a view to improve knowledge, skills and attitudes of the target population to the levels of national standard, increase employment opportunities of the trained graduates in viable & decent working conditions and provide international standard skill training courses in selected fields to facilitate overseas employment.
Meanwhile AITVET is offering 4 years Diploma in Engineering courses approved by Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) on self-finance basis in eight different technologies with an intake capacity of 1260 students per year. Number of technology will be increased in the upcoming years.
DAM TVET has taken another significant initiative to establish a Centre of Excellence for TVET to implement global standard technical and vocational education and training at Ashulia Model Town at Khagan, Savar. As a part of it, AITVET is going to establish its second campus (the permanent campus) and through introducing 4 year Diploma in Engineering courses in three technologies (Civil, Electrical and Computer technology) for this year.
